We’re told of a shortage of courgettes sweeping the country. Why should this news send a frisson of impending doom to diners? You’ll find no shortage of excellent, quality vegetables on our menus including dishes on the £12 Set Lunch Menu. Courgettes get into their stride in June in the UK, not now during a foggy, raw January.  To celebrate the best of what our local suppliers can find us – maximising on availability, seasonality and value –  the three course Lunch menu changes on a whim when our suppliers come up with wily buying from the markets, but not skimping on quality, our benchmark.

Recently, we’ve put dishes on this special menu, available from 12 – 3 pm, which have created an enthusiastic interest and take-up. Recent lunchers have enjoyed diverse dishes  such as Lebnah (strained Greek plain yoghurt) crammed with flavour by adding roasted aubergine, pistachios, pomegranate and garlic.  That’s a possible rather luscious starter.

Follow with maybe a brown crab risotto, pickled fennel, chilli, lemon and dill to bring a dull post-festivities palate to vivid life and finish with a cranberry and ricotta strudel with vanilla ice cream.

But, if you hanker after a luscious local Storrington pork dish with crackling on the market menu, or a mackerel starter, or a chocolate pud to remember with fondness, do have a look at other menus including the a la carte. Banish biting January by one or several of these dishes; the courgette will make a comeback in the spring, the kitchen will, no doubt, be on its case then!
